The pictures are some of the more than man-sized stalagmites in the Hall of the Thirty. The size, type and quality of these is exceptional for a UK cave. Note the glow in the bottom picture. These stalagmites are calcite, which often seems to be translucent. Refraction of the light of a flashbulb seems to continue after the flash - hence the glow effect. |
